New book on leadership supports diabetes research

Leadership Within Reach, a new book by Chip Chapman, offers an inside look at the lives, journeys, motivations and inspirations of 88 leaders from central Ohio. As you read the stories, Chip says, “You may realize, as I did, that there is no simple answer or direct path to take in becoming a successful leader today. However, I believe this book demonstrates that great leadership is certainly ‘within reach’ if you have the desire to learn and the willingness to take action.”

The book reveals the influences and challenges that have made the featured leaders—including Jack Hanna, Cheryl Krueger and John McConnell—who they are today. Read to discover their passion, their motivation and their insight on what has driven them to become successful.

In addition to his lifelong interest in leadership, Chip found inspiration for the book in the compassion and drive of Tom Augustine, a fellow entrepreneur and founder of Lacelet LLC. Both men are fathers to children with insulin-dependent diabetes, and both of them wanted to make positive headway on a cure for diabetes.

Chip was motivated to write the Leadership book after his son, Joseph, asked him whether he’d have to take insulin injections for the rest of his life. That’s when Chip, his wife, Rebecca, and her sister, Allison West, began researching and writing the book, which is dedicated to Joseph, his sister, Emily, and the many other families who manage juvenile diabetes on a daily basis.
